Dear Director Judd:
On June 10. 2008. a Fire began near PaICI-1110. South 0fOIVVil1C. In the County of Butte
destroyim-, homes and personal prOPCI-tV. On June 11. 2008, a Fire be(pn in the Town ofParadise
resulting in additional losses of homes. businesses, and personal property in that county. The fires
were fueled by dI_0U('ht conditions, hI,_,h winds, and lo" humidity. As a I-CSLIlt, the State of California
has received a request for assistance from the County of Butte.
On June 19. 2008. a damage survey was conducted by the Governor's Office of Emergency
Services and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to determine the extent and type ofstate
and/or federal disaster assistance needed to assist with recovery efforts. The damage survey revealed
100 homes and 66ur businesses have uninsured losses of at least 40 percent of their value, which meets
the SBA minimum criteria for a physical disaster declaration. In light of this information, and on
behalf of'Governor Arnold Schwarzenem-er, I request that You declare the County of Butte a disaster
area in order to provide assistance in the f'Orin of'disaster loans Im- those advcrsclY affected by the fires.
