Re: Singh Unit
My name is James Paiva and have been farming in Nord since 1970. My family has been in the
Chico area since the late 1800's, and has owned APN 039-580-030-000 since 1901. I am highly
concerned about the possibility of the State Parks converting the south-bordering property,
known as the Singh Property, into habitat.
If the Singh property is converted in to a habitat area, my family's property will suffer from
water overflow. Without proper care of the subject property there will be heavy debris and silt
build up. This buildup of debris and silt will not allow water flow at a rate fast enough to pass
through the subject property. With the continuous buildup of debris and silt a natural dam will
be created, and my family's property will become the nearest low spot and path of least
resistance for the excess water. Furthermore, the natural damming on the Singh property will
cause the walnut hulling facility that I own to be burdened by large backflows of water from
Mud Creek, Rock Creek, and Big Chico Creek. An example of what will happen without the
proper maintenance is the Peterson Unit, with lies south of my family's property.
The potential conversion of the Singh property to a habitat is not a good idea, it needs to be
stopped, and I strongly oppose it.
Sincerely,
James M. Parva
