Brown %State Capitol, Suite 1173 Sacramento, Ca 95814 Dear Governor, My name is Judy Orlando I own a beauty salon and have for 30 years in Magalia California. The reason I am writing this letter is I am very concerned about the recent rise of armed incidents here in Magalia. 1, as other business owners have expressed our concern about the lack of law enforcement in our small community. Recently,we have had two specific gun related activities. The first incident occurred at the local service station, where a young man brandished a handgun at a brother and sister at the pumps in broad daylight. The offender was able to run away(into the canyon)on foot. Unfortunately, the search was called off at dusk, and the perpetrator is still at large. The second incident was reported to the sheriff at the local elementary school. Two men pointed a gun at a young man who was picking up his brother from the after school program. These are just two of the most recent activities that are occurring in Magalia. Our main concern, frustration and outrage living here on the Ridge,is after 6 pm law enforcement is not available to the residents or local businesses. The crime rate has escalated so dramatically over the past few years. I am afraid for myself and the other people that work at the salon to stay late at my salon as well. The attempted break ins occur almost nightly! We have a Butte County Sheriff Sub Station that is manned during the day by our volunteer Stars program, but our primary local law enforcement consists of the Butte County Sheriffs Office in Oroville, California. If there is an emergency,we have to wait over 45 minutes for any type of response. We have been told that due to the budget deficit, law enforcement is not available for us. I would like to know what about the people of the Ridge who work hard, raise out families and pay taxes are we not afforded the comfort of knowing we can be protected during a crime? We never seem to get satisfactory responses to our repeated outcry for help. I would appreciate a response by phone AT 530-873-0657 or email at [udvoriando@comcastmet Thank you very much for your time and attentive response.
