To the Butte County Board of Supervisors:
I am writing to endorse Peggy Moak as Interim Butte County Treasurer-Tax Collector. I
offer some of my background to give context to this endorsement.
I moved to Chico in 1960. Armed with a degree from Chico State in Business-
Accounting, Iwas hired by Lassen Savings in 1967 as a management trainee, promoted to
Controller and progressed to President. Our local Board of Directors were some of
Chico's most influential: Ned Richardson, Ted Meriam, Grayson Price and Dr. Louis
Olker. The values they passed on to me-hard work, integrity, and service to community-
are the same characteristics which Peggy Moak exemplifies.
I worked closely with Peggy from the mid-1980's until 1991, when I left to become the
Central Area Manager, including the Los Angeles area and National/International
Banking. Initially hired as a Branch Manager for what had, by then, become Great
Western, Peggy was quickly promoted to Administrative Officer. She joined me in the
Regional Office as the number two person, responsible for branches from the Oregon
border to Fresno, Tulare, and Visalia. I retired from Great Western in 1996, shortly
before they were purchased by Washington Mutual, but have followed Peggy's career
from the private to the public sector. I believe Butte County has been well served by her
employment there.
A consummate professional, Peggy is an articulate speaker, a gifted writer, and possesses
the ability to analyze complex financial and economic data. She has extensive experience
in human resources: hiring, training, reviewing and, when necessary, documenting and
terminating. She is honest and ethical. She does not cut corners; if necessary, she puts in
additional hours until the task is completed to her satisfaction.. She is what every
employer and every Butte County resident wants from their county representatives:
someone who is hardworking, loyal, a true team player and most important, someone they
can trust.
Since my retirement I have served on two bank boards myself. Had Peggy been brought
before either of those boards she would have had my complete support. That is why I
offer you my endorsement of Peggy Moak to be appointed Interim Butte County
Treasurer-Tax Collector. If she decides to run for election to that same office I will
certainly vote for her.
