HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter from Scott Rushing Mr. Doug Teeter, Supervisor, Fifth District Board of Supervisors, Butte County, CA Response of your letter of 12.13.2017 Dear Mr. Teeter: Thank you for responding to my letter and for mentioning the death of my son. I realize the Butte County Board of Supervisors, and its Chair Bill Connolly, do not have any authority over Butte County District Attorney, Mike Ramsey, as he is an elected official. However, I have seen him make personal comments at your public meetings and your board has questioned Mr. Ramsey on various issues indicating your board is curious about the activities within the District Attorney's office. My request from your board is to carefully scrutinize the DA's budget that must be approved by your authority. I have uncovered during research into the officer involved shooting of my son that the DA has not initiated any form of recruiting for diversity in his department or other law enforcement agencies in Butte County. There should be goals and objectives for diversity in the DA 's budget and if those thresholds are not met the budget should be cut proportionately. The Joint Powers Authority that insures Butte County would strongly recommend loss mitigation programs be implemented and monitored as part of the law enforcement practices in Butte County. With three fatal officer involved shootings in 2017 in Butte County the claim exposure has increased. r The implementation of diversity and loss mitigation programs are a budgetary requirement within the purview of the Butte County Board of Supervisors and I trust your board agrees to initiate these two MAW rements and others as your board deems relevant into the DA's funding. The risk of losing funding will be the catalyst to assure cooperation from the DA. Please contact nae should you have questions- Please shave this message with fellow board members. Thank you.
