Subject: Child Support Funding Proposal
Dear Assembly Member Dahle:
I am writing to provide you information regarding the child support services program and how it has been funded.
The child support services allocation formula was established in 2002 and has not been revised since, despite
changes in county caseload and performance. The static allocation methodology has resulted in significant
challenges for many counties to provide core child support services to our customers and your constituents.
The Senate and Assembly Budget sub-committees' proposed budgets would provide immediate relief to 19 county
child support services agencies that are severely underfunded.
The child support services program provides essential services to all families, regardless of income, by helping
them obtain child support payments, which can often lead to individuals becoming self-sufficient and help to
address the significant poverty issues in these counties. In addition to providing a key service to low income
families, child support programs provide the State with a return on investment for every dollar spent funding child
support staff and operations.
Should you have any questions regarding this program, please feel free to contact me at 530-538-6576 or
sfarrell@buftecounty.net.
Sincerely,
Sean FaVre11, Director"
