HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter from Stan Statham regarding the State of JeffersonDoug Teeter, Chairman Butte County Board of Supervisors 25 County Center Drive, Suite 200 Oroville, CA 95965 Dear Mr. Teeter: g'rrs AbNlIkIS7)Z4 Y June 18, 2014'``trL C_AIIFnNIa JUN 2 0 2014 Butte County's Supervisors vote on June 10th on the "State of Jefferson" movement got Sacramento's attention! Several members of the legislature brought it to my attention since it was exactly 22 years ago, on that same date, I was able to convince my colleagues to begin the process of changing our once Golden State into three new states. Paul Hahn was somewhat right when he told the board it was "more of a symbolic vote." However, it could be more than symbolic. What I was doing then was "sending a message" to our state's capitol. I had already spent 16 years voting on thousands of proposals, while California's government continued to struggle. Supervisor Connelly hit another bull's eye when he said smaller government is almost always superior. My daughter moved to Colorado a few years ago to escape excessive regulations and laws. Supervisor Wahl was dead on then he indicate the Great North State cannot get the representation it deserves in Sacramento. When I spent 18 years representing nine northern counties, 28 Assembly members were representing the Los Angeles basis alone. That kind of math shows a great imbalance in the ability to get things done for Butte County. The north state could eventually get more power with a positive vote that "sends a message" to Sacramento. I would be happy to appear before you at any time to discuss this latest proposal. My cell number is 916-508-7826. sincerely, Stan Statham rc, C66 C/O
