RE: Marijuana Cultivation Ordinance OROV0.LE,CALIFORNIA
Dear Honorable Supervisors,
We, the members of the Butte County Republican Party Central Committee, respectfully
request that you modify the Marijuana Cultivation Ordinance passed on November 12°', when it
comes back to the board on December 10th. We support a tougher ordinance in order to
discourage the "for profit" marijuana grows in Butte County.
Growing marijuana for profit is against the law, both state and federal, and cannot be
tolerated in our county. We all know that Proposition 215 was passed with the intention of
helping seriously ill patients. However, obtaining 215 cards is way too easy. Those gaining
from illegal sales hide behind Proposition 215, while appearing to be in compliance as
caregivers. They are breaking both state and federal laws that you as County Supervisors have
pledged to uphold, and are trampling all over the rights of law abiding citizens.
The county should amend the ordinance to model Tehama County's ordinance in order to
ensure that marijuana does not become our number one agricultural crop. We recommend the
following:
• Reduce the number of plants allowed to no more than 12.
• Require a setback of 100 feet regardless of parcel size.
• Allow anyone to file a complaint, thereby maintaining the anonymity and safety of the
complainant.
Illegal marijuana growers have come to Butte County and are destroying our beautiful
landscape and the environment due to our existing ordinance. This needs to stop. Please
represent all of your constituents, not just those who threaten to put a referendum on the ballot.
We urge you to protect the public health, safety, welfare, and the environment of Butte County
and the rights of all Butte County citizens by passing a stricter Marijuana Cultivation
Ordinance.
Regards,
//
Michael Zuccolillo
Chairman, Butte County Republican Party
