SUBJECT: Declaration of Interest to Serve on Butte County Water Commission
Dear Ms.Snyder:
The purpose of this letter is to express personal interest in serving on the Butte County Water
Commission,as a Landowner-Surface Water representative.
As a third-generation California farmer, i am keenly aware of the important role water plays in
ensuring the viability of Northern California's agricultural economy. At the same time, I am an
outdoorsman who appreciates and respects the diverse ecosystem that sustains our quality of
life in Butte County. 1 am also an active member of the Butte County Farm Bureau Board of
Directors and a Cub Scout Den Leader.
Consistent with the stated intent of Measure G,which created the Commission in 1996, 1
believe our county's groundwater resources should be used for the benefit of the overlying
land, while at the same time protecting the overall health of the aquifer. In making decisions as
a board member, I would do my utmost to avoid bias toward any particular entity, but would
instead strive to follow my own judgment based on personal knowledge and observation.
In addition to my career as a rice farmer, which I entered into in 2007, 1 am also co-owner of a
greeting card manufacturing company based in Chico,along with my wife, Rebekah. We live in
Chico with our three sons, aged five,six and nine.
