I extend special thanks to Janee Windsor with the Consumer Protection division. I was talking with a reporter from the Chico Enterprise Record and I repeated what I have heard over time from contractors about competing against illegally operating contractors. My quote made it into the paper. In response to the article,Janee Windsor called to find out if there was a current situation she could help with. She explained to me that she and Tom Cunningham with CSLB are frequently in the field, seeking out unlicensed and/or uninsured contractors. When they started this effort a few years ago, they would find unlicensed guys to "educate." However, these days they find far fewer. Sounds like many illegal guys have either gotten a contractor's license or moved on. I was so appreciative that she took the time to call and find out more about the quote in the paper. It's clear your office is committed to making the business environment safe for legally operating contractors. It's also clear Janee, Tom Cunningham, Building Departments, and even Craigslist are doing great work because there ARE fewer unlicensed contractors in the mix. Thanks for the efforts of the Butte County DA to get contractors above-ground. Janee's initiative to call me is proof your team is committed to the effort. Warm regards, Kate Leyden Executive Director Valley Contractors Exchange CC: Butte County Board of Supervisors I (MD 1 (a
