HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter to ER Editor from Mary Murphy regarding BC Library SQ4RD pyr soft SEP 082010 01?0"LLE,CALrFpRN ENTERPRISE RECORD September 6th, 2010 rA LETTER TO THE EDITOR P. O. Box 9 CHICO, CALIFORNIA 95927 Butte County Library There is an article in the Enterprise Record Sunday September 5, 2010 regarding Monday hours for the Chico Branch of the Butte County Library. The hours at the Chico branch will start on Monday, September 13, 2010. What the article does not state is the money for the Monday hours is coming from the elimination of the Supervisor Position of the Library Technical Services. This position was eliminated by the Board of Supervisors at the August 10'',2010 meeting. My question is to the Library Director and The Board of Supervisors, who is going to do the cataloging and the processing of 35,000 to 45,000 items that the two employees of the Technical Services have done in the past? At the Supervisors meeting on August 10th, 2010,the Library Director was asked by the Supervisors"who will do the work in the Technical Services"? The Director answered "Technical Services." But the Director did not say what Technical Services would do the work. Does that mean there will be another employee hired or does that mean the work will be out sourced? It is good Chico library is getting more hours, but I am concerned about the efficient cataloging and processing that Technical Services have done in the past.
