In collaboration with Butte County, incorporated cities and two water districts are updating LHMP. The purpose of this LHMP update is to assess local risk to natural and significant man-made hazards, implement actions through mitigation measures to reduce future losses, and maintain eligibility for federal mitigation funds in accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000. FEMA defines mitigation as any sustained action taken to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from hazards. Studies have shown that for every dollar spent on mitigation efforts, 4 to 5 dollars in response and recovery costs are saved. This LHMP update is being developed by a Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee comprised of representatives from various county and city departments, neighboring jurisdictions, county districts, federal, state and local agency stakeholders, and the public. Members of the community have an important role in this review process. A draft of the LHMP Update is available for review and comment by the public and all interested stakeholders on the home page of the Butte County website (www.Butte_C~u~~ty net) or clicking on the following link: IaHMP U date. Hard copies of the plan are available at Iocal libraries, city halls and the district offices of Paradise Irrigation District and Thermalito Water and Sewer District. Two public meetings (both covering the same information) on the draft plan will be held: Monday, April 29, 2013 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm Chico Veterans Memorial Hall 554 Rio Lindo Avenue, Chico Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm Butte County Board of Supervisors Chambers 25 County Center Drive, Oroville MEMBERS OF THE BOARD ###
