Supervisor Bill Connelly:
I strongly urge you to support stricter marijuana growing regulations in Butte County during your May 4th Special
Meeting. I have lived in the Cohasset community for 15 years and have seen the horrible side effects of Proposition 215
in our neighborhoods. I have no problem with genuinely sick people using prescribed marijuana. However, that
accounts for probably only 1% of the growers. The other 99% are growing more than they use far their "illness" and
making a huge profit on selling the rest to the black market. I have seen numerous people on unemployment and
welfare driving brand new vehicles and bragging about their new riches. The lure of a quick profit has attracted the
worst type of individuals to our area. Traffic, loud music, gun-fire and barking dogs have all increased. I have been
charged by a pit bull that had gotten loose from a neighbor's garden and attacked my dog. My once beautiful family-
oriented street is now so dangerous that I felt compeged to get a CCW Permit so that I can legally carry a loaded gun
when I take my dog for a walk. I don't wish to keep the legitimate patient from having ON1= or TWO plants. However,
these large gardens are obviously using Proposition 215 to get away with growing large quantities of marijuana for
personal profit. It is ruining my neighborhood, devaluing my property, and it is not the intent of the law. The quiet
majority of law-abiding citizens feel the same way as I do, but do not wish to attend a Supervisor's Meeting and be
harassed and intimidated by these unscrupulous individuals. Anything that you could do to help curtail these gardens
would be greatly appreciated.
