I am writing you in the hope that the information that I am sharing with you will help educate
you to what is really going on in Butte County with the outside growing of marijuana in Butte
County. I highly support the elimination of outside growing similar to what Supervisors have
done in Kings County. I would like to respectfully ask that you consider the following: I live in
Cohasset and have had my property values decreased since the rampant outside growing in Butte
County. The very realistic issues that my family have had to deal with are: poorly maintained
rental properties, unsecured garbage blowing onto our property, loud music late at night (after
11:OOpm on weeknights}, increased vehicle traffic {at high speeds on our private dirt road), loose
pit bulls, obscene signs, illegal non-permitted fences (in a deer migration area}, transient and
"unwanted" type of individuals in the area, not to mention the smell of the large crops. Our
neighborhood used to be considered a "good" neighborhood. We built a 4000 square foot log
home several years ago; it was to be our dream home.
The atmosphere of our once tight-knit community has changed dramatically. Our direct
neighbors put a sign up that says, "If you value your ass, stay the fuck away." Unfortunately,
guests coming to my home have to view that sign. Because of the loose pit bulls and unsavory
characters that are now prevalent on my street, I have had to obtain a Concealed Weapons Permit
and am forced to carry a loaded gun whenever I leave my property to walk my dog. It is a
horrible situation. There are several properties on our street that are now for sale because the
atmosphere of the neighborhood has turned so negative since most of the residents have started
growing. Let's talk about the elephant in the room: people are growing multiple plants under the
protection of Proposition 215, selling the product and making tons of money. I can't tell you
haw many unemployed andlor "disabled" growers are driving new pickups. It is a sham and I
would greatly appreciate you doing something about it.
I fully support the decision to stop the outside growing of marijuana in Butte County. It is the
right thing to do, even though the loud minority will complain bitterly. The vast majority of
people like me will not publicaIly speak, or even write a signed letter to the Editor. We are
afraid. If I put a sign in my yard against marijuana growing, my family would be at risk. That is
why I am asking YOU, our elected official, to stand up for what we all know is right.
Please help stop this sham of people ruining our neighborhoods and getting rich by growing
marijuana under the guise of Proposition 215.
Sincerely, //~ "
