Dear Members of the Butte County Board of Supervisors:
I am writing to you concerning the proliferation of medical marijuana production in my Butte County
neighborhood. I am a homeowner, living approximately just north of the City of Chico boundaries, near Bay
Avenue. At least two homes in our neighborhood are involved in the production of medical marijuana. These
homes are situated on acre-sized lots among other homes.
During harvest-time in the fall, our neighborhood endured an increase in traffzc to these homes from people
associated with the growing, processing, and distribution of these plants. Our teenagers were fascinated. Who
were these people coming and going at all hours? Why were there 5-6 strange cars parked out an Bay Avenue at
7 a.m.? Was it legal? What were the profts? Were we safe? Elections were coming up... Would we vote to
support medical marijuana? The omnipresent odor was oppressive. We closed our windows and waited for all
of the activity to pass.
We don't understand what is happening to our neighborhood. How can it be that we work, pay taxes, take care
of our homes, and families and now live among marijuana production gardens? Why isn't this illegal? These
growers somehow have permission to change the character of our neighborhood for their own profit. It's an
insulting and inappropriate use of land near so many homes and families.
Please consider passing ordinances that would prohibit medical marijuana production in the established
neighborhoods of Butte County.
Sincerely,
jenny Firth
