25 County Center Dr
Oroville, CA
Dear Board members,
It has come to my attention, and confirmed by County Counsel, that there are no
residency requirements for members of the Butte County Planning Commission. They
don't have to be residents of Butte County, nor the District they represent to be nominated.
This oversight needs to be fixed. While it is likely that a Supervisor would nominate
a Butte resident, it is not a requirement. Members of the Planning Commission should be
residents of the areas they represent! How can they be responsible to the residents they
represent when they have no ties to the area?
Currently a situation exists where one member is likely not residing in Butte County
and is doing a poor job of representing the residents of the Ridge ( District 5).
I am asking you to fix this situation with a simple modification of the the County
ordinance regarding the appointing of members of the Planning Commission.
I do not know if this same situation applies to other County boards and
commissions, but this should be addressed as well.
I hope you will take swift action to correct this situation.
Respectfully,
Michael Miles U.S. Army Ret. gpts
