Dear Butte County Supervisors,
Labor Day is the official end of summer, a day to celebrate workers in America and kick off the
school year. This year a special group of individuals has been working very hard to make a Museum
of Northern California Art {monCA} a reality, Here is an update of those activities:
We first met with most of you in 2009 to explore the amazing Veterans Building in Chico. We
realize it may take some time to turn our dream of re-purposing that structure owned by the county
and located in the city into a regional art facility. We have located a small yellow school bus and
intend to Kick off our community outraeach activities with a Mobile Museum/Driving Docents
Program. We have been endowed with a generous and gracious gift of over 3S0 pieces of art by a
widely known collector of Northern California Art. Docent Coordinators Nancy Leverette and
Trudy Duisenberg will begin a docent program with the Chapman Elementary School 3rd & 4th
grades on September 16th. They will be working with top teacher Kathy Naas. Also in September a
docent program will commence monthly at Jarvis Gardens Senior Housing Facility in Chico. Please
see the attached photo of the bus being held for us by owners in Arnold (a teacher and a graphic
artist) who support our cause and lowered the price for us: $3,500, By the start of next week we
will be able to accept donations and we seek your help in establishing this wonderful outreach
project.
Additionally bylaws were drawn up and ratified. Articles of lncorporatian were submitted to the
Secretary of State and a corporate identification number assigned on August 1 st. A federal tax
identification number was obtained (FE1N}. This week we meet with an attorney to review our
application for ourS01 {c}(3) status. Come visit us at our Palio booth this Saturday in the Chico
Downtown City Plaza and cheer on our special race horse entry! We are here to stay, to thrive and
celebrate our North State's astonishing artist citizens. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
