Contact: Bill Mannel (530) 879-2350 or Sang Kim (530) 538-3575 Oroville, CA -Butte County officials announced a ribbon cutting ceremony for its landfill gas-to- energy project scheduled for Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the Neal Road Waste and Recycling Facility {formerly known as the Neal Road Landfill) located at 1023 Neal Road (1 mile east of Highway 99). In 2006, the Butte County Board of Supervisors endorsed pursuing renewable energy projects at the Neal Road Waste and Recycling {NRWRF). The concept is known as the energy farm. Through a competitive process, the County selected Ameresco, Inc. to collect methane gas produced by decaying organic materials at NRWRF and combust it to generate electricity. Through a 25-year contract, the County wiI1 receive a percentage of revenue Ameresco generates from the sale of electricity. The project initially will generate up to 2.2 megawatts {power for approximately 1,300 homes) and upon additional build out is expected to generate at least 4.3 megawatts. Additionally, the project will reduce C02 emissions equivalent to removing 17,096 cars from the road. "After years of hard work, I am really pleased with the completion of this project," said Steve Lambert, Chair of the Butte County Board of Supervisors. "This innovative public-private partnership further increases the County's renewable energy production while generating revenues for the County.
