The Bu#te Meadows Jonesville Community Association had Jerry Bird of the Lassen District come speak to us some months ago. This meeting was attended by over 100 people and would have been larger except many had to stand out in the rain, so they left, The meeting lead to a unanimous vote of "no respect" by the attendees after Jerry, joined by various members of his staff laid out the new regulations and advised us of their intention not to modify them and stymie any public effort to change the travel plan regulations. Jerry Bird has basically tried to cut-off all ATV access to Bu#te Meadows and could not even tell us where we could ride an ATV even one mile in the surrounding area, except perhaps for county main#ained roads going through National Forest Land which are still under dispute according to Mr. Byrd, but being allowed access at the moment. Traditional viewing areas have been cut off such as Humboldt Summit for cars, breaking a supply point for the Pacific Crest Trail. Off road car parking is limited to 15 feet and other user unfriendly rules have been applied to the National Fores# that surrounds our Butte Meadows community. More restrictive rules are planned to basically rid the National Forests of their users with fines up to $5,000 and 6 months in jail. Although we are just a population of 40 people, with the surrounding summer homes and visitors we have been gathering petitions numbering in the hundreds asking that these restrictive rules, based on false science be struck down. We plan #o end gathering these petitions a# the close of the summer and present such to the County Supervisors and Wally Herger's Office. If you would like to view these petitions we can have them available at the Butte Meadows -~ -~ i ~. 'J'am, `-r lv~ ~U 'Vo Jonesville Omelet Breakfast on Sunday September 2nd between the hours of S to 11 AM. You will find many of these signers of the petition are from your own distric#s and you owe it to them to understand the personal impact these rules are having on them. Please come and hear about the problems first hand. 1 want to note during the petition signing process, the signers were overwhelmingly supportive of Butte County representing them in litigation agains# the Plumas National Forest Travel Management Plan and are anxious for the complaint to be filed. Please come down to this community event on September 2nd and learn from your constituents. B K Brooks PS Watch out for the Garbage Bears that have been dumped on our community, they are dangerous and are quite a problem. z
