The Croville Area, Butte County and the surrounding Feather River Country has always been enown as a 'IQ,po rt s Zara's Paradise". The Fabulous Feather River passing through the Area offers immediate opportunities for boating, water skiing, swimming and fishing. A very short drive will leas` to an al t idude of perpetual coolness. Sportsmen from all parts of the country make an annual pilgrimage to this area to hunt deer, bear and smaller game which abound in the mountains. Ducks, geese, pheasant, quail and dove are plentiful x . . and trout ,fishing in the many takes and streams cannot be excelled anywhere. Camping and picnicing are favorite pastimes of resident and tourist alike. The facilities available are many and varied. The Forest Service orperate.s .many approved campgrounds, but more often than not ,you will find ,many campers "roughing it " near a beautiful Mountain stream neath the coolness of tall majestic pine trees. res, the Crovi l le Area has always offered recreation unlimited, but the potential is almost beyond comprehension, The recent completion of the South Fork Project (See map, page 4) , and the ;forthcoming recreation areas to be established around the 4roville Darn Reservoir, (See crap, page 2), will truly Dark Oroville as one of the leading playgrounds of the nation. The recreation facilities around the lake behind the darn with its 167 Miles of shoreline, the Forebay and Afterbay will accomodate 83, 000 visitors daily, or a total of 12� million visitor days annually, This figure does not include the thousands who take advantage of the many other recreation opportunities already available. Another future retreat ion area, noir only in the planning .stage, is the 5000 acre borrow Area, from which fill material .for the Croville Oam is now being hauled. A study is under- way to determine the best way to utilize this ,section ;for recreation purposes, Whilo no definite plans have been arrived at as yet, it is believed by many that it will serve best as a waterfowl hunting area. As can be seen .from this brief description, recreation in the Croville Area is almost as close as your front yard. Initial construction of these facilities should get undenday y the dates shown on map. Several of these areas will be accessible by boat only and will offer an adventure in primitive camping to the more, venturesome visitor. Following is a brief description of the various areas and thier recreational potential. Kelly Ridge is where the construction overlook is located. Also here is the Administrative Center with exhibits, concession stand, and tours through the underground powerhouse, This will also be the new home of the famous Mother Orange Tree, Old Toll House, and first Suspension Bridge in the West. These historical landmarks were formerly located at the famous old mining town of Bidwell Bar, which will soon be submerged beneath 450 fie'et of oater as' -the Oroville Reservoir rises. U KELLY RIDGE AREA - 386 acres. 300 picnic units - 30 acres for boating - 850 parking spaces -Consideration is also being given this area as a camp trailer sitet 8 LIME SADDLE AREA - 397 acres. 575 camping uni 'ts - 570 picnic units - 6 acres of beach - 7 acres, for boating - 2 conces- sion .acres - 1865 par-king spaces. 19 LOAFER CREEK AREA - 887 acres. 1 10,0 camping units .- 2000 picnic units - 37 acres of beach 25 acres for boat ing­-s con- cession acres - 5700 parking spaces. 0 FOREMAN CREEK AREA - 356 acres. 960 picnic units 14 acres of beach - 30 acres -for boating 13 concession acres parking spaces. 0 BLOOMER AREA 2l8 acres. 432 camping units - 1 .5 acres for boating 2.5 concession acres - 682 parking spaces,. 0 CRAIG AREA - 1273 acres. 2240 camping units - 500 picnic units - 10 acres of beach - 10 acres for boating ---5 con- cession acres - 3990 parking spaces. 0 SYCAMORE CREEK AREA - 40 acres. 25 camping units - 6 picnic units. 0 GOAT RANCH AREA - 12 acres. 10 camping units - 2 picnic units. 0 POTTER RAVINE AREA - 431 acres. 396 camping units - 455 picnic units - 15 acres for boating 5 concession acres ---- 1876 parking spaces. CO BLOOMER PRIMITIVE AREA - 154 acres. 310 camping units - 77 picnic units. The Thermalito Forebay is divided into two sections. The North Area and the South Area CD NORTH AREA - 274 acres. picnicing - boating - swimming - 5 concession acres (Marina, golf course, restaurant) 01SOUTH AREA - 116 acres. picn,icing - boating - swimming - 5 concession acres. 0 THERMALITO AFTERBAY Due to the wide water level flucuations in this area, recreation will be necessarily lim- ited and restricted.
