HomeMy WebLinkAboutredistricting81401BUTTE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING Notice is hereby given by the Butte County Board of Supervisors that a public hearing will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in the Board of Supervisors Room, County Administration Building, 25 County Center Drive, Oroville, for the consideration, and possible adoption of a redistricting proposals. Election Code 21500 states, "in establishing the boundaries of the districts the board may give consideration to the following factors: (a) topography, (b) geography, (c) cohesiveness, contiguity, integrity, and compactness of territory, and (d) community of interest of the districts." The above list is not exclusive and other comments on redistricting may be sent or provided for consideration. Every 10 years the federal government conducts a census and issues an official population count. Following the census, state and federal law require the county board of supervisors to adjust supervisorial district boundaries, if needed, to equalize population. These adjustments will determine the district within which a citizen votes beginning with the March 5, 2002 Primary Election and continuing to 2011, when new census data is available.
