Supplemental Agenda
* Award of Contract for Phase 1 of the Reclamation of New Era Mine - On
April 2, 2010, the Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution 10-067, which
authorized the reclamation of the New Era Mine. The initial invitation for
Bids (IFB) 89-10 was issued on July 19, 2010 to reclaim the New Era Mine.
Three companies submitted bids. The bid from the lowest responsible
bidder was more than double the amount available from the financial
assurance. Anew Invitation for Bids (IFB 11-11) with a revised scope of
work was issued on August 30, 2010. Four companies submitted bids. The
lowest responsible bidder is Lorang Brothers Construction, Inc. as detailed
in the agenda report. The lowest responsible bidder exceeds what is
available from the financial assurance by approximately $70,000, after
taking into account the cost of preparing the reclamation plan and the
construction monitoring. Due to the urgency of completing the project
prior to the rainy season, staff recommends that the Board appropriate
$70,000 from General Fund appropriation for contingencies for the project
- action requested -APPROVE AGREEMENT AND AUTHORIZE THE CHAIR
TO SIGN SUBJECT TO REVIEW BY COUNTY COUNSEL AND AUDITOR-
CONTROLLER; APPROVE RELATED BUDGET ADJUSTMENT (4/5 vote
required).
