The Butte County Board of Supervisors is opposed to SB 1221 by Senator Ted W. Lieu. This bill would
prohibit the use of dogs in the hunting of bears or bobcats.
If enacted, it would restrict the ability of livestock producers, forest owners and other citizens from proper
wildlife management. The use of hounds to help manage wildlife is a time honored and humane way to help
manage the increasing danger from a growing hear population and a shrinking bear habitat. The use of
hounds to manage this growing population is necessary far the protection of both human and bear populations.
Approval of this bill could also adversely impact the lifestyles and economic development of many rural areas
that rely an hunting and gaming to bring needed revenue into our communities.
Given the need far bear and bobcat management, the protection of our citizens from wild animals coming
closer to urban areas, and the general need to encourage sports and l;unting taurisin, we respectfully request
that you oppose SB 1221.
Thank you for can 'deration of this important matter.
