Dear Customer,
The State Department of Public Health requires notification to all customers on the raw water system(pipe or open ditch)
that IRRIGATION WATER IS UNTREATED,AND NOT INTENDED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.The quality of the
water may change at any time and may contain harmful chemicals and/or microorganisms,The open conveyance of
irrigation water does not prevent pets and local fauna(deer,cattle, rodents,etc.)from entering the water. In addition,the
water and conveyance ditches are periodically treated with approved herbicides following the manufacturer's
recommendations.
Please do not drink any water provided from the raw water system,or allow children or pets to wade or swim in it.The
irrigation system, including the Community Line, is not disinfected.This water does not meet drinking water standards.
Landlords should notify tenants of these facts.
For the 2017 irrigation season,the water conveyance system will be fully operational and dedicated to meeting customer
service requests. Thereafter, diversions to the Forbestown Ditch will be shut off for the winter season,and the Bangor
Canal and Palermo Canal systems may experience temporary outages to give Agency personnel time to perform
necessary maintenance and repairs.
Customers who utilize pumps are reminded that the Agency cannot guarantee that its water conveyance facilities will
always have water in them. Circumstances beyond the Agency's control from time to time result in failures and the
dewatering of a ditch or pipe. To protect your pump from being damaged in these situations, please ensure that it has a
float switch or other device that can detect when its intake port is not submersed to prevent the pump from running in a dry
condition and possibly burning up its motor. The Agency will not be responsible for damage to customer pumps.
