We wanted to let you know about a special CSAC Institute course coming up on Friday, Nov. 10, in Sacramento being taught by Mono County Supervisor Stacy Corless, founding member of Sierra Classic Theatre in Mammoth Lakes; and Contra Costa Supervisor John Gioia, Chair of CSAC Institute Governing Board and CSAC Past President. In this lively, interactive class titled "Drama in the Board Room:Acting Techniques to Improve Your County Performance," participants will learn and practice classic theatrical training concepts and techniques that they can apply to their work as county leaders. This course will help you learn how to add passion and meaning to your communication. The course was inspired by Marty Linsky from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, who taught the CSAC Institute's Executive Leadership Symposium earlier this year. During the symposium, he discussed how acting training had benefited him greatly as a government leader. Leadership and acting do have a lot in common. Both crafts require practitioners to be aware of and manage their emotions and those of people around them. They evoke different emotions-- leaders generally don't try to get people to cry and actors generally don't get people to work through difficult workplace changes-- but their crafts overlap nonetheless. The course is set for 10 am to 3:30 pm, Friday, Nov. 10 in Sacramento. For more information or to register, visit the CSAC Website at http:/Zwww.counties.org/csac-institute-excellence-countV-governiment, or contact Jenai Wyatt at iwvatt@counties.org. Thank you.
