Chief Administrative Officer Haddix, Supervisor Connelly, and you really helped clarify many of the issues my staff and I had seen when touring the fire area. As a result of your Visit, the Governor asked that I respond to Your letter of July 10, 2008. 'I'lic Governor asked in his June 26 letter to the President for an emergency declaration for the fire siclic beginning May 22. The Governor specifically requested that we receive all federal programs necessary to assist the C01111nUnities hit by the fires, including the Individual and Households Prograin (JHP). At this time, pushing back the date of the start of the fire siege and triggering the IHP program *11 under consideration by FEMA. I assure You that we will continue to pursue any measures are still I I available to get funds flowing to your community and to get aid to the people with damaged or val 0 destroyed homes. Governor Schwarzenegger and President Bush met to review the state's Fire damage and determine how the federal government Could best assist LIS in restoring 01,11-communities and preparing for the remainder of the fire season. During this meeting, it was made clear that rnatiy C0111MIL11111;CS ;fl f'a1hf6rn;a are a tough financial situation as a result of the Fires and many people I I �, I , situation , I - have lost then- homes. It is incumbent on the federal government to conduct a fair assessment of the damage and take all necessary actions available under the law to help our C01111111111111CS to recover.
