As a member of the Butte County Board of Supervisors, I am writing to you regarding
Recology's E-Recology business located in the City of Oroville. Butte County values having
such a quality e--waste facility located here. I have personally toured the facility and have
showcased it to others. I experienced a genuine sense of pride each time I visited. This
company stands as an example of one of the cleanest operations in our community. In
addition, when one tours the facility, the positive attitudes of the employees are clearly
visible. It is not hard to see that the employees believe that they are doing important work
by recycling e-waste. These jobs are contributing to our local recovery from the 15%
unemployment rates caused by the most recent recession.
The Recology management team responsible for E-Recology has set a high standard for
conducting an a-waste business. We realize that the loss of the financial benefits you
received from the Private Industry Council to get E-Recology off the ground will require some
tough employment decisions.
We hope that the operation is close enough to reaching profitability that you will be able to
make the internal investment to carry the business forward. I am happy to make myself
available to explore any assistance we might be able to offer.
