Dear County Supervisors:
Plumas National Forest has received a request for information from Congressman .LaMalfa on a
number of gates on roads in Butte County near the Forest. The request is attached, Mr. LaMalfa
asks for information on who owns and maintains the roads where the gates are located, and
documentation of Forest Service easements on portions of roads that are restricted by the gates.
We are currently researching this information. '"rhe gates generally appear to be on private land.
The Forest Service has been transitioning from paper to electronic records in recent years,
however some of our easement information may still be on paper records and so may be difficult
to locate. As casements are generally recorded in the counties where they are located, Butte
County may have some of this information. We would like to ask for your assistance. We'd like
to request that the county search your easement records for Forest Service easements on the
roads and gate locations listed in Mr. LaMalfa's letter, and provide us with copies of easement
documents that you locate.
