From: T & P Walker [mailtoaowpawCa~wildblue.netl Sent: Tuesday, May 10, 203.1 9:03 AM To: Connelly, Bill; Yamaguchi, Kim; Wahl, Larry; Kirk, Maureen; BOS District 4 Subject: OROVILLE POLICE -FIRE DISPATCHING Importance: Nigh Dear Supervisors, I am very concerned regarding the recent unilateral decision made by the Oroville City Council to not renew the Fire Service dispatching contract with Cal Fire /Butte County Fire's Emergency Conlznand Center. There seems to have been a rush to judgment, (special n~zeeting with vez•y short notice), without a thorough consideration on how that decision will affect the rest of Butte County. Was the Board of Supervisors consulted in any way concerning the issue? Will the reduction in .funds, to the current Cal Fire1BCFD fire dispatch center, compromise or reduce the operational or dispatching services to the rest of the citizens of Butte County? The Oroville Police Chief said that he had checked with the Butte County Administrative Officer to see if the taking back of the fire service dispatching to the Oroville Police Department would have an adverse effect to the Mu1:ua1 or Automatic Aid Response plans of south county and the CAO said NO. Whereas the legal agreements on paper for mutual aid may not be affected, is the CAO qualified to speak to the fire service operational impacts? Did the Cal Fire/BCFD Fire Chief have any input? Will it cause delays in response of mutual - automatic aid resources since they will be dispatched my multiple dispatch centers and multiple radio frequencies? Currently the majority of the fire emergency response resources are dispatched and notif ed simultaneously on one single frequency eliminating any delays by placing phone calls, etc. to neighboring agencies. There znay he a few exceptions. Will there be less dispatchers, {due to layoffs), on duty at the Cal Fire/BCFD Conm~and Center? I know that we all can respect that it is tl~e City of Oroville's decisio~l, but it just seems that there was not a lot of detailed factual information provided to the public oi- to other's who may have an interest. ec: fire ,/ c ~~ . i ~~y ~' 1' eke++ Thank you ali for your service, Respectfully, Tom Walker 2149 Oregon Gulch Rd.
