Subject: Proposed Medical Marijuana Cultivation Ordinance
April 23, 2011
Dear Supervisor Connelly:
I am writing in regard to the proposed Medical Marijuana Cultivation Ordinance. I am fortunate to live on a five acre parcel
in the beautiful foothills of Butte County. My parcel is bordered by other family members, and marijuana growing has not
as yet become a neighborhood issue forme. Not so for many of my friends and family members.
Case in point is my son and daughter-in-law. They purchased their first home three years ago. As for most people,
location (meaning a safe environment in which to raise a family) was at the top of their fist. They chose a home in a quiet
cut-de-sac with a mix of retired and young family owners. Shortly after moving in, the home next door became a rental,
and a large marijuana grow sprung up. Increased traffic, noise, and odor ensued, along with suspected criminal activity -
notthe safe environment they had invested in.
Please act to protect the tax payers and property owners of our county by interpreting Proposition 215 in the strictest
possible sense:
* No grows on residential parcels smaller than one acre.
* Smaller amounts of plants on all parcels.
* A permitting and documentation process far all medical grows.
* Strict enforcement of unlawful cultivation, distribution, and consumption.
* Strong enforcement language in the ordinance to enable code and law enforcement to do
their jobs.
* Protectis.of owners w~ ntal property is us d for cultivation without permission.
