History of Business Russell Martin, (my father), was a 4th generation resident of Fremont (the Martins came to Fremont from the Azores in the 1880’s). His uncles all drove race cars and were mechanics (if you do drop in, ask him to show you some of his vintage racing photos!). Russ started as a mechanic in 1969 and worked for Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Buick dealers and independent shops until he opened Centerville Auto Repair in 1979; he named it after a district in Fremont Ca. when Russ moved the shop up to Grass Valley in 2008, he discovered that Grass Valley was named Centerville in 1851, so decided to keep the name. I began working in my dad’ shop – first sweeping floors and emptying trash cans – then beginning to learn the ins and outs of the business as I grew older. My specialty is rebuilding specialty engines for Nailhead engine collectors. I have been able to grow this specialization outside the original intent of business operations. I built the original Tommy Ivo dragster clone and have been featured on several magazine covers Land Use/ Intent Property of Interest: 24 Kumbak Ln. Bangor, CA I would love to carry on this tradition in this business as my father is getting older and planning to retire. My plan for the property is to work with the county to build a small 1-3 bay shop close to the main road near Oro Bangor HWY and ease of receiving engines without upsetting traffic flow. We chose this area due to being separate from other homes and businesses. Employees I myself am the only employee although my wife will tell you she sits on the Board lol. Traffic I have roughly two (2) engines shipped to me per month but do not have customer traffic for auto repair such as oil changes, etc. I have had people “stop by” when traveling to the United States as they are interested in “seeing the nailhead shop”. So the traffic is no more than normal household traffic. [Centerville] Tool Use I use normal engine hand tools but at times run an engine on the stand and so it does sound like a car running at times. All “loud” machine shop work is handled in Grass Valley. Hazardous Materials/Welding We have little to no hazardous waste outside of coolant and oil, which are always properly stored and wasted per law and regulations. Tig welding is done at times to repair parts. This is not an everyday occurrence and flame cutting and air arc gouging are never used. The utmost care is used each and every time in appropriate spaces always ensuring safety. Thank you for taking the time to review this today. I hope we can work together to make this happen as this has been my wife and my dream for several years and would love to be a part of the community. Sincerely, Matt and Courtney Martin [Company Name] Business Plan
