Description 0031111111 H° FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS Wheelock's Series NS/NS4 Horn Strobe appliances and the Series NH Horn are of LOW CURRENT design with ZERO INRUSH. The horn appliances provide a selectable continuous horn tone or temporal pattern (Code 3) tone when constant voltage from a Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) is applied. Each tone has two dB settings to choose from. All models (horn only or horn with strobe) may be synchronized when used in conjunction with the Series SM or DSM Sync Module(s) or Wheelock's PS -12/24-8 Power Supply with Wheelock's Patented Sync Protocol. Additionally, the horn may be silenced while maintaining strobe activation of the Series NS/NS4 Horn Strobe appliances. All of these features are achievable with either Wheelock's Patented 2 Wire Series NS or with the 4 wire Series NS4 (Audible will operate only with power applied to both strobe and audible). The Series NS/NS4 Horn Strobe appliances and NH Horn appliances are designed for maximum performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness while meeting or exceeding the latest requirements of NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm Code), ANSI 117.1 (American National Standard for Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities) and UL Standard 1971 (Standard for Signaling Devices for The Hearing Impaired) and UL 464 (Audible Signal Appliances). Series NS/NS4 Audible Strobe appliances, when properly specified and installed in accordance with NFPA/ANSI standards can provide the Equivalent Facilitation allowed under ADA Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG General Section 2.2) by meeting or exceeding the illumination which results from the ADA specified strobe intensity of 75 candela at 50 feet. This is an illumination of .030 lumens per square foot. When used with the Wheelock Series SM or DSM Sync Modules or Wheelock's PS -12/24-8 Power Supply with Wheelock's Patented Sync Protocol, the continuous horn tone produces a synchronized temporal (Code 3) tone (required by NFPA-72 (1999)). This ensures a distinct temporal (Code 3) pattern when multiple horns are within hearing distance. If not synchronized, the temporal sound could overlap and not be distinctive. At the same time the strobes on the circuit may be synchronized. This provides the ability to comply with ADA recommendations concerning photosensitive epilepsy and meet NFPA requirements when installing multiple appliances within the field of view. All of this plus the ability to silence the horn is achieved by using only 2 WIRES (NS/NH). Copyright 1999 Wheelock, Inc. All rights reserved. They can be changed to vibrating (VIB) mode with jumper on PC Board. SINGLE STROKE OPERATION: The minimum input pulse duration must be at least 160 ms "on" time and 160 ms `off" time. The chime will only operate once each time it is pulsed. This mode is recommended for coded systems. VIBRATING OPERATION: Continuous input voltage applied to the chime will activate the chime at one second intervals. 2. The volume and tone controls have been adjusted at the factory to insure maximum dBA output. However, once the mode is selected, the installer may want to fine tune the signal to better suit the application. 3. Anechoic dBA is measured in anechoic chamber with peak meter response. Reverberant dBA is rated per UL standard 464. 4. Chime inrush current is 0.100 amps maximum with filtered DC input (0.140 amps with VRMS input voltage) with a time duration of 100 milliseconds. Our Code -3 horn and tone patterns are engineered to comply with NFPA/ANSI Temporal Pattern specifications without requiring additional equipment. With MT and MT Strobe Signals, one alarm appliance meets most of your signaling needs. Synchronized strobe versions are available. The MT Strobes are designed for ADA applications with maximum performance, reliability and cost-effectiveness while meeting or exceeding the latest requirements of NFPA 72 (the National Fire Alarm Code), ANSI 117.1 (the American National Standard For Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities) and UL Standard 1971 (Standard for Signaling Devices for the Hearing Impaired). MT strobes, when properly specified and installed in accordance with NFPA/ANSI Standards, can provide the Equivalent Facilitation allowed under ADAAccessibility Guidelines (ADAAG General Section 2.2) by meeting or exceeding the illumination which results from the ADA specified strobe intensity of 75 candela at 50 feet. This is an illumination of 0.030 lumens per square foot (footcandles). Each MT and MT Strobe appliance has two user selective sound output levels: STANDARD dBA and HIGH dBA. Non -strobe versions provide selectable voltage capability in one unit, 12VDC or 24VDC, filtered or FWR. Strobe versions are specific for either 12VDC or 24VDC and may be used with filtered or unfiltered (full -wave -rectified) input voltages. Separate input terminals are available, shunt wires are provided to enable both tone and strobe to operate simultaneously from a single input. The Multitone Strobe Signals are UL Listed for indoor use, ceiling and wall mount, under Standard 1971 for Signaling Devices for the Hearing Impaired and Standard 464 for Audible Signal Appliances, and use a Xenon flashtube with solid state circuitry enclosed in a rugged Lexan® lens to provide maximum reliability for effective visible signaling. Heat detectors are available in 135•F and 200•17 temperature ratings. Rate -of -rise detects heat by quickly responding to a rapid temperature increase. Rate -of --rise units have a wide spacing allowance of 50 -foot centers. See specification table for details. Fixed temperature reacts to heat by responding to a specific temperature setting. Series 600 Detectors use the same reliable pneumatic rate -of - rise element of former models, but offer added aesthetic appeal. The pneumatic rate -of -rise element responds to a rapid rise in temperature, approximately 15•17. (8•C) per minute, by expansion of air within the sealed chamber faster than it can escape through a calibrated vent. The resultant increase in pressure depresses the diaphragm, causing the electrical contact to close the circuit. The fixed temperature element uses a fusible alloy. When activated, the external heat collector drops away to provide quick visual confirmation that the element has operated. The units protrude only 1-3/8 inch from the ceiling surface with a junction box mounting. They have pleasing contours and an all -white finish that conforms to ceiling aesthetics. Installation Each detector includes a patented reversible mounting plate In one position, it easily attaches to 4" square junction box, 3.25" or 4" octagonal box, or plaster ring. In reverse, the plate can be used for open wiring without a junction box. A 1/4" space between detector and mounting surface allows for wire connections. All mounting screws are concealed. The detector attaches easily to the mounting plate with a push and twist motion. No tools are required. All rights reserved (10199). The plate is extremely strong yet adapts to uneven mounting surfaces. Series 600 Testing Methods Models 601/621 and 602/622 can be tested by the quick application of heat from any convenient source. A portable hair dryer is recommended. However, do not apply heat that exceeds the fixed temperature rating of the detector. Models 603/623 and 604/624 cannot be tested. However, the fusible alloy element used is considered so reliable that testing is not necessary.
