HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-021RESOLUTION REC06NIZING FEBRUARY 2020 AS WHEREAS, teen dating violence, also known asdating abuse, is sedoumamd growing problem throughout California. Teem dating violence intervention and prevention programs can help to ensure a positive school climate and safe learning environment for all youth; and education and outreach programs to community members address warning signs ofteen dating violence among youth, beforebehaviors escalate, and protect the safety mftargeted youth; and WHEREAS, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 4 adolescents report verbal, emotional, physical, or sexual dating abuse each year; and I in 9 female teens and I in13male teens reported experiencing pbysica|violence imthe last year; and WHEREAS, 43% ofbGBTteens reported experiencing physical dating violence, compared to 29% of heterosexual youth; and WHEREAS, survivors of teen dating violence have increased risk for truancy, dropout, teen pregnancy, suicide, having eating disorders, and engaging in other harmful behaviors such as use of alcohol�, tobacco, and other drugs.
