WHEREAS, the Social Work Profession for generatio,ns has worked to strengthen the well-being and meet the
bas,icneedoo[aUpemp|e,espe(ja|Uvpeop|evvhoanewu|menub|e'mppressedand|iving in poverty;
WHEREAS, this year's Social Work Mmnth theme, "Social Workers: Generations Strong" embodies the heroic
work of socia I workers who for more than a century have worked to make our society a better place tnUiye;
WHEREAS, the Socia | Work Profession isone ofthe fastest growing professions inthe United States, with more
than 777,OOOpeople expected Lobeemployed essocial workers by2028;
WHEREAS, the Social Work Profession, allows social workers to work in a variety of settings, including schools,
centers for veterans, hospitals and mental health centers, and local, state and federal government;
WHEREAS, Social Workers, for generations, have worked with other professions,lawmakers, civil rights and
cmnmnnumbvgroups, tnbring equal rightsforaULincKodingwmmnem,LGBTQ and those ofvarious cultural, ethnic and
religious groups.
WHEREAS, the Social Work Profession has been pushing for changes that have made our society a better place,
including a minimum mage, improved vvmhkp|aoa safety, and S0da| safety net prVgrgrnsthait help ameliorate poverty and
hunger;
VVHEREAS,,Socka|WorkerucomtimwetostamdmeedytoheUpnurnodomimt|omesmfcrisis,indudimgmmramdmatura|
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby declares the month of
K4m/ch 2020 as Social Worker Appreciation Month in Butte County; recognizing that the Social Work Profession makes
socletyebetter place tolive bvadvocating for positive change; and encourages all citizens toconsider Social Work during
the month ofMarch and throughout the year.
