WHEREAS, National Child Abuse Prevention Month will be recognized throughoutthe United States and California
during the month of April 2020; and
WHEREAS, preventing child abuse and neglect is a serious problem affecting every segment of our community,
and finding solutions requires input and action from everyone; and
WHEREAS, child maltreatment occurs when people find themselves in stressful situations, without community
resources and don't know how to cope; and
WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect can be reduced by making sure each family has protective factors in place that
will eliminate risk and promote the social, emotional, and developmental well-being of children; and
WHEREAS, child abuse can have long-term psychological, emotional, and physical effects that have lasting
consequences for victims of abuse; and
WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention activities succeed because of partnerships created among State and
local government agencies, schools, faith communities, health communities, civic organizations, law enforcement, the
business community, and families; and
WHEREAS, prevention remains the best defense for our children and families.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Butte County Board of Supervisors do hereby proclaim April 2020 as Child
Abuse Prevention Month in Butte, County and call upon all residents to recognize this month by dedicating themselves to
the task of improving the quality of life for alll children and families.
