WHEREAS, Butte County is committed to promoting the mental health and well-being of all citizens; and
WHEREAS, the mental health of our communfty is essential to the continued well-being and vitality of our families,
businesses, and communities; and
WHEREAS, greater public awareness about mental illnesses can help change negative attitudes and reduce stigma
toward people with mental illnesses; and
WHEREAS, with effective treatment, those individuals with mental health conditions can recover and lead full,
productive lives; and
WHEREAS, each business, school, government agency, faith -based organization, health care provider, and citizen
has a responsibility to promote mental wellness and support prevention efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors do hereby recognize May 2020 as Mental Health
Awareness Month in Butte County. As members of the Board of Supervisors, and also call upon the community to commit
to increasing awareness and understanding of mental health, the steps Butte County residents can take to protect their
mental health, and the need for appropriate and accessible services for all people with mental health conditions.
