HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-054WHEREAS, CalFresh is an entitlement program that provides monthly benefits to assist low-income households in purchasing the food they need to maintain adequate nutritional levels; and WHEREAS, CalFresh provides for the nutritional needs of vulnerable populations within Butte County, increasing their opportunities for success; and WHEREAS, 17,053 Butte County households currently receiveCa|Presh benefits resulting in 28,521 imdividual�s having increased access to healthy foods; and WHEREAS, during the recem1COVUD-19 pandennic Butte County received 460Ca|FresN applications inthe first week of April, 2020, an increase of 86.5% in the amount of applications received the previous week; and WHEREAS, low-income households will have continued access tmCa|Freshbenefits and associated programs that continue to provide access to vital nutritional programs and resources that benefit our communities; and WHEREAS, public agencies and community partners are collaborating to combat insufficient access to nutritional needs for vulnerable populations and raise awareness of the availability of CalFresh to all community members. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby declares the month of May, 2O2QosCa|FreshAwareness Month imButte County, established to raise awareness of the availability of the CalFresh program with the goal of increasing access to nutritional programs that can positively impact the health and well-being of community members.
