HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-067VAM W'"'v"MIR 2020 AS WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY WHEREAS, elder and dependent adult abuse is a serious and growing concern in Butte County and it is in the best interest of everyone in our community to recognize the signs and symptoms of ender and dependent abuse; and WHEREAS, reports of abuse or exploftation of elder and dependent adults are made daily; and nearly one out of five Butte County residents are age 65 or older and the one in eight residents under age 65 are living with a disability,- and WHEREAS, elder, and dependent adult abuse may be, physical, ernotional, sexual, or fiduciary and consist of crJmes that recognize no boundaries of econornic, educational, social status, gender, race, culture, religion, or geographic location,- and WHEREAS, elders who experience abuse or mistreatment face a greater, risk of impacting the health care and social service systerns,- and WHEREAS, current estimates suggest that as few as one in twenty-four cases Of elder and dependent adult abuse is reported; and WHEREAS, preventing abuse of older adults through maintaining and improving social supports like senior centers, human services, housing related assistance and transportation will allow everyone to continue to live as independently as possible and contribute to the life and vibrancy Of Our communities; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors, hereby declare the month of June 2020 as Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month in Butte County and recognize June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Lucero, Ritter, Teeter, and Chair Lambert NOES: None ABSENT: None Steve Lambert i;ry Butte County [3 and of Supervisors ATTEST: Shari McCracken, Chief Administrative Officer and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors uty By:
