HomeMy WebLinkAbout03.04.20 Email from Danette York - Coronavirus Update Public Health Administration Danette York, M.P.H., Director Andy Miller, M.D., Health Officer 202 Mira Loma Drive T: 530.552.4000 buttecounty.net/publichealth Oroville, California 95965 F: 530.538.2164 Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Update for Butte County Board of Supervisors March 5, 2020 Butte County Cases:ZERO For up-to-date information regarding COVID-19, see the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) . website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html Current Situational Update: California Governor declared state of emergency (see proclamation attached to email) Butte County Department of Public Health (BCPH) is operating in an Incident Command System (ICS) structure and have activated our Department Operation Center (DOC) at a level 2 BCPH Nurses are working directly with returning travelers to self-quarantine in residences and regularly check in to verify they do not show symptoms Other BCPH staff are serving as Subject Matter Experts and following/researching information needed tobe shared with various groups such as health care providers, schools, businesses, etc. BCPH staff are sending most accurate information as often as possible and maintain our website and social media sites, but refer individuals to the CDC website (above) as that is where the most current national information can be found BCPH continues to receive MANY calls and emails from worried well o A lot of questions come in about our ability to test for COVID-19 –test kits have not been provided to Butte County. At this time all labs capable of testing for COVID-19 are outside of our county. If a healthcare provider determines a person should be tested that provider will work with BCPH to collect a specimen and deliver it to a COVID-19 testing lab. Recommendations to the public: o Stay home when sick –keep sick children home from school and/or daycare o Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or sleeve o Wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds o Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces o Refrain from touching your face as much as possible 1 Public Health Administration Danette York, M.P.H., Director Andy Miller, M.D., Health Officer 202 Mira Loma Drive T: 530.552.4000 buttecounty.net/publichealth Oroville, California 95965 F: 530.538.2164 o CDC does not recommend routine use of N95 respirators(face masks) outside of the healthcare setting –the general public who are well do not need to wear face masks –a sick person should wear a surgical face maskwhen around other people (sharing a room or vehicle) or pets and before you enter a healthcare provider’s office 2
