Heads March 17, 2020 Lab Confirmed COVID-19 Cases in Butte County: ZERO Information Update: We still remain at zero cases but a ton of work and preparation continues. A correction to North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF) for supporting the efforts of this event. You may have read that they are contributing up to $250,000 to Butte County Public Health for the response. The priority for this funding is to purchase the necessary lab equipment and materials so that our Public Health lab can start testing for COVID-19. Unfortunately, this is a process and takes a little time. We estimate that by the time we get all the equipment and get certified that we may be actually performing tests in about a month. We completed the initial paperwork for the vendor yesterday to get the ball rolling and I will keep you updated as this process moves forward. support the Public Health Department Operations Center (DOC) during our time of need. Many have allowed staff to come support us and we really appreciate it. Having the EOC operating is also a huge help as this event continues to expand beyond just a public health emergency. CAL FIRE/Butte County (although I am sure there should be more). Sean Norman and David Hawks spent some time with me and staff yesterday to help us further streamline our DOC structure and understand some of the roles and responsibilities of the Incident Command Structure (ICS). It was very helpful! Even throughout the response we will continue to learn what we can and implement best practices. We are hearing that there is a lot of confusion about testing in general. Today, we will be developing material and pushing it out that explains: what is a test kit, who gets and uses test kits, how many are available to Butte County (none at this point but this information will clearly explain why).
