STATE PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS ISSUE STATEWIDE STAY AT HOME DIRECTIVE
Oroville, Calif—On Thursday, March 19, 2020, California Governor, Gavin Newsom and the State Public Health
Officer, issued a public health directive ordering all individuals living in the State of California to stay home or at
their place of residence, except those needed to maintain operations of essential services, critical government
services, schools, childcare, and construction including housing. The order is effective immediately.
The stay at home order was put into place in an effort to slow the spread of the COVID 19 virus, which in turn
will decrease the impact on critical health care services and facilities. Please do not call to report businesses that
remain open; the state is working to provide guidance to businesses at this time. We are all in this together, and
we appreciate the efforts community members are taking to follow guidance provided by public health officials.
The stay at home order is in effect throughout California, and will remain in place until further notice. “It’s
important to understand this order does not mean you can’t leave your house,” said Butte County Board of
Supervisors Chair, Steve Lambert. “You can still walk your dog, you can still go grocery shopping, you can still
take your kids to the park while practicing social distancing; however, it is critical that we take this order
seriously and follow public health directives in an effort to slow the spread of COVID 19.”

“Going forward, anyone who develops respiratory illness with fever, we will consider the likelihood that they
may have COVID-19,” stated Dr. Andy Miller, Butte County Public Health Officer. “Anyone who becomes sick in
the coming weeks and months, should isolate at home away from well people in your home and stay home until
it has been at least seven days from the onset of symptoms AND 72 hours that you have been without a fever
AND your respiratory symptoms (cough/sneezes) have improved.”
