Subject:Phone Line for Impacted Businesses - COVID-19

Good afternoon Board Members –
We continue to meet regularly with economic and workforce development partners who are
responding to the needs of the community as a result of COVID-19.
We know many businesses have temporarily closed and many people are unemployed because of
business closures or reductions. We do not have the number of local unemployment claims yet, but
we do know the Governor announced the daily average for the last seven days is 160,000 new
claims. This compares to around 2,500 daily claims prior to COVID-19.
All of our partner agencies continue to get calls from businesses. NoRTEC and the Alliance for
Workforce Development established a dedicated phone line and email for businesses to call with
questions. The business service representatives will answer questions and direct businesses to
available resources.
