Hi Everyone,
EDD is now providing the number of weekly new UI claims for the NoRTEC region.
There were 15,423 new claims for UI in the eleven NoRTEC counties during the week of March
28th. As you can see on the attached spreadsheet, numbers for the previous few weeks were
averaging about 400.
This is obviously a staggering and unprecedented number. Unfortunately, next week's
numbers are likely to be much higher.
We can only hope that most of these are temporary layoffs, and that our economy returns to
full employment within a short time frame.
I don't have information for individual counties. Also, this is a new report that EDD is
providing, so I don't have access to historical information for these weeks in 2019.
Data for week ending April 4th will be available next week.
