Good Afternoon,
You may have read recently that the Governor released guidance on a new Emergency Feeding
Program. The program is currently authorized for FEMA reimbursement until May 10, 2020. The
program was designed to serve elders and vulnerable populations. In order to qualify participants
must meet the following criteria:
Must be 65 or older, or otherwise at high-risk, as defined by the CDC.
High risk includes those who are COVID-19 positive or COVID-19 exposed as documented by
a public health official or medical professional or individuals with an underlying condition.
Must love alone or with one other program-eligible adult
Must not be currently receiving assistance from other federal nutrition assistance programs
(CalFresh) and receive no more than $74,940 in income for a household of one (1) and
$101,460 for a household of two (2). This equates to 600% of the federal poverty limit.
Must affirm an inability to prepare or obtain meals.
As you might imagine, this is a big lift for a short window of eligibility for FEMA reimbursement.
Since I received the guidance on Friday afternoon, I have been in communication with 211 and local
food delivery programs. I anticipate having more concrete information in the next day or two to
determine whether this is a program Butte County has a need to implement.
Thank you,
Shelby Boston, MSW
