HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-122WHEREAS, Shari McCracken, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the County of Butte, announced her
retirement effective September 30, 2020, after nearly 16 years of services to the County; and
WHEREAS, dedicated to public service, she has worked for numerous public and non-profit agencies and
organizations over the last 37years. Previous to joining the County, Shari worked for the CAO~sOffice imSonoma County
beginning in1999. Mrs. McCracken came to the County in 2005, where she served as Deputy Chief Administrative Officer
until November 2017 where she was appointed lnterim Chief Administrative Officer until April 2018 when she was made
the County's permanent CAO; and
WHEREAS, Almost the entirety of Shar[sappoimtmment asthe CAO has been defined 6vmanaging one emergency
after another including the Camp Fire,, the most damaging wildfire in Ca,|ifmrnia history, a series ofPublic Safety Power
Shutoff events, and C{)V|D-19; and
WHEREAS, Shari's leadership was instrumental for Butte County to respond to these emergencies and to begin
the recovery process for them; and
WHEREAS, Shari's tenacity and advocacy for the County was relentless in seeking support from CalOES and FEM'IA;

WHEREAS, Shar7sunending energy and positivity inthe face ofthese emergencies gave confidence tnall those
who worked with her; and
WHEREAS, Shari's work ethic and her ability to do the work of three people are almost legendary; and
WHEREAS, coworkers, colleagues, and Board Members will sincerely miss all the 3 a.m. emails from Shari (she
may need to find a new outlet for her boundless energy on those sleepless nightsafternetimamnen+);and
WHEREAS, Shari has been essential and irreplaceable to the organization and the Administration department and
this was never more apparent than during those brief absences following her lamentable, and occasionally spectacular,
tendency to fling herself down the nearest available ramp, curb, driveway, or concrete stairwell; and
WHEREAS, Shari willingness totake nndifficult projects and duwhatever ittakes toget them done led tothe
successful re-impl�ementation of the County Financial System; and
WHEREAS, Shar[s reputation for vvndkinB hard and playing hand has earned her not only the respect but the
WHEREAS, Shari's dedication to Butte County residents and staff is unparalleled.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors on its own behalf, and on behalf
of the residents of the County of Butte, wishes to express to Shari McCracken sincere appreciation for her dedication and
outstanding service rendered to the residents of the County of Butte, and further wishes her the warmest regards uipon
her retirement.
