First, regarding the TBID: They are doing great work; it was a very good move on the Board's part to approve the establishment of this program, and the partnership with other agencies, including Butte County, has been most rewarding. The executive director of Explore Bute County is also serving on the Forest Advisory Committee as Alternate for Tourism and Economic Development, and has been a worthy contributor to that committee. Second, regarding the Forest Service: Dave Brillenz, District Ranger of the Feather River Ranger District, spoke at the Forest Advisory Committee meeting last night. He noted that the North Complex Fire has destroyed virtually all of the Ranger District, including Granite Basin, the Feather Falls Trail and the Bald Mountain Trail, and all campgrounds. The District is closed through the remainder of the year. Numerous Forest Service Buildings were destroyed, along with a number of USFS personnel's homes in Berry Creek. It was a heartbreaking report. I gathered that the fire-fighting responsibility moves from Ranger District to Ranger District, and they prepared for a 10 mile advance ahead of the fire hitting their Ranger District, but it blew up at a 30 mile advance, leaving them with no ability to effectively deal with the fire under the extremely hazardous and inaccessible conditions. Third, commenting on the NVCF resolution to recognize their efforts. So well deserved. I serve on the Butte Strong Fund and have been truly impressed with the professionalism, empathetic responsiveness, organizational effectiveness and proactive community outreach to best maximize community recovery efforts. Thank you for recognizing their collaboration and outstanding to the communities they serve.
