HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-137Resolution, No. 20-137 WHEREAS, although progress has been made toward preventing and ending domestic violence and providing support to survivors and their families, important work remains to be done; and WHEREAS, domestic violence programs in California provide essential, lifesaving services for survivors, their children, and communities, there is still a need to provide education, awareness and understanding of domestic violence and its causes. Approximately 40% of California women experience physical intimate partner violence in their lifetimes; and WHEREAS, domestic violence affects people ofall genders, sexual orientations, ages radal�,ethnic, cultural, social, religious, and economic groups in the United States and in California. The nooq8ima|ization of certain groups in society, including undocumented individuals, tn*osgender individuals, and people living with disabilities, increases their vulnerability to domestic violence; and WHEREAS, domestic violence is the third leading cause of homelessness among families in the United States; and WHEREAS, COV|D'19 pandemic has led to additional barriers for survivors ofdomestic violence as they attempt to find safety; and WHEREAS, children exposed to domestic violence can experience long-term consequences including difficulty at school, substance abuse, behavioral problems in adolescence, and serious adult health problems. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors in recognition of the imiportant work done by domestic violence programs, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2020 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and urge all residents to participate in the scheduled activities and programs sponsored by Catalyst Domestic Violence Services towork towards building healthy relationships and eliminating intimate partner violence.
