History
Calvary Concow is a body of believers that have been meeting faithfully in the
area since August 2001. We have met continually since forming then. Three
years meeting and teaching at Scooter’s Restaurant and the Yankee Hill Grange
and then on to home fellowships in various homes in Concow and Yankee hill.
Our first official “Service” was September 7th, 2008 at the Messilla Valley School
House @ 11666 Concow Road.
We have met and held services continually somewhere since. I say somewhere
relative to the fires in the area that have driven us to be somewhat nomadic due
to loss of structures and water systems.
In our service to the community we have baptized over 70 people in Concow
Creek alone, performed many marriages, funerals and memorials.
In January of 2017 we incorporated at the State level thru the Sacramento
Secretary of State offices and bought APN 058-550-010 from the Arch Diocese
of Sacramento.
In early 2017 we applied to the County of Butte for an encroachment permit. A
permit was issued and paid for. Unfortunately, the permit was issued
erroneously by Public Works. After much work constructing access to APN 058-
550-010 we received a “Cease and Desist Order” from District 3 Caltrans, with
threats of fines if the property was not restored to original “No Access” condition.
It turned out that the County couldn’t legally grant us access, as the State of
California controls access of the first radius turn on Yankee Hill (upper) where
our driveway was put in. A petition was put before the California Traffic
Commission for a waiver. Ultimately our petition failed thru some of the twelve
departments concerned in District 3 Caltrans, Marysville, CA. All this took
several years and thousands of dollars spent along the way. We were forced to
buy an easement and have it surveyed and recorded at the cost of an additional
16K plus the construction of the road, the moving of phone poles and installing
drainage to cross Upper Yankee Hill Road.

It should be noted that with the error of the original granting of the
Encroachment Permit by Butte County which was purely accidental, we have
received the greatest help and kindness thru all involved in the process.
Improvements:
March 12th, 2018 property lines surveyed and easement to the North for the
Miller property was included in survey and recorded---performed by Roper
Surveying.
Property line stakes were placed each 50 ft.
April 5th 2018, a 40 x 60 ft. building delivered and stored at board member’s
home and property approximately 4 miles from APN 058-550-010
This building was originally purchase in 2017 with the thought the the original
encroachment permit was a green light. Building is still standing by to be
erected.
November, 2018 property completely burned over, emergency crews used
original access from first encroachment permit destroying BMP erosion controls
and fencing required by the Caltrans in restoration project.
July 10th, 2020 well permit issued.
October 8th, 2020 septic permit approved---construction is pending donated
equipment and labor.
October 20th 2020 well drilled.
October 28th, 2020 a well yielding 25 GPM has been constructed on the property
by Peter’s Drilling of Grass Valley. 1 ½ HP Pump at 140 ft. Well is 160 ft. deep
with first water at 115 ft. SB 1263 has been completed and a PWS (Public Water
System) is in the works now that water to test is available.

Purpose:
This project at its inception is for the establishing of a safe, available and
centralized meeting place for the members of the Calvary Concow Church and
members of the surrounding community.
We have numbered over the years from thirteen to eighty-four attendees.
The 40 x 60 ft. building initially will be for a sanctuary, restrooms and potentially
an office and classrooms. A warming kitchen is also planned.
The building site is closest to Hwy 70 and elevated high (2080 ft.) above the
roadbed (2040 ft.)
The property is currently bordered by a commercial parcel to the North (the
Pines Hardware Store) and another commercial parcel to the Southwest
(Canyon Lake Market, locally the Dome store). Our neighbor to the east is
undeveloped land and formerly a “grow” site.
We have hosted services for religious purposes as well as holiday opportunities
to the community.
Recovery based meetings have been sponsored by the Church with much
success.
We have several contractors available to us as members.
After serving the community for the last twenty years we are looking forward to
having a place called our own.
We own the building and the property outright. We have made improvements
that will exhibit viability in the establishing of a service-related building that is
positive for the community.
With the fires and the Covid we have experienced a reduction in attendees and
now have between 25-40 on Sundays. Our plans are for 80 people two times a
week at two hours per meeting. That is what our septic system is sized for. We
have a surplus of room for expansion and plenty of room for parking planned.
