HomeMy WebLinkAbout201-42WHEREAS, Butte County recognizes that all children need love, support, security, and a place to call home; and
WHEREAS, every year, more than 100,000 children in foster care in the United States are available for adoption; and
WHEREAS, the average length of time a child spends in foster care in the United States waiting for an adoptive
family is between two and four years; and
WHEREAS, in Butte County there are approximately 500 children and youth in foster care; and:
WHEREAS, from December 1, 2019 to October 30, 2020, 50 Butte County children in foster care have been
officially placed for adoption and ten more adoptions will be finalized over the months of November and December. The
remaining ten adoptions will be finalized over a two-month timespan due to COVlD-19 restrictions.
WHEREAS, November has been designated as National Adoption Awareness Month and is declared so by
presidential proclamation each year; and
WHEREAS, the goal of National:, Adoption Awareness Month is to increase public awareness of the needs of children
waiting for permanent homes, as well as the enduring and valuable contribution of adoptive parents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby declares the month of
November 2020 as Adoption Awareness Month in Butte County; recognizes that every chilld deserves a permanent and
loving family; a,nd encourages all citizens to consider adoption during the month of November and throughout the year.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this loth day of November, 2020, by the
following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Lucero, Ritter, Teeter, and Chair Lambert
