HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-170WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt, Director of Public Works, announced his retirement as of December 18 2020, from the, Department of Public Works after serving the citizens of Butte County for over 20 years; and WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt started working for the Department of Public Works, County of Butte on August 27, 2O16;after having worked 5years as the Assistant Director of General Services with the Cmunty of Butte, 14 years as the Public Works Director with the Town ofParadise, and 3years for the City ofRed Bluff; and WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt, asthe County Engineer and Director ofPublic Works, was responsible for avast array of functions to provide services and safety to the citizens of Butte County. Over h[s fmur and a ha|fyears with the Department of Public Works he has worked on several emergencies which include eight vvNdUaod fires, three of which were declared federal disasters, the Oroville Spillway Incident which was another federally declared disaster, seven Public Safety Power Shutoffs, two federally declared flood emergencies, and the current COVID-19 pandem,ic; and WHEREAS Dennis Schmidt saw the purchase of specialized Personal Protective Equipment for all Public Works field staff and facilitated VV||d|and Fire Safety training, negotiated for settlements andsa|esofover$12,000,QOOtmrepoir roadway damages from the GpN|vvay incident, has led the recovery efforts from the various emergencies, that include roadway rehabilitations, tree removals, and landfill operations; and WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt saw many changes to the Neal Road Recycling and Waste Facility including the closure of the septage ponds, construction of the septage receiving facNity, completion on the construction of Modules 5A, 513 and SC, completion of the installation of new Bas extraction wells, purchase of two new scales for the set-up of a new entrance, and supported over $3,0�0,000 in grant monies for an organics/compmst processing project; and WHEREASDennis Schmidt saw the completion ofover thirty roadway, drainage and other projects |mdmdimg traffic signals, storm, damage repairs, spillway incident repairs, road reconstruction, bike lanes, asphalt overlays, guardrails, chip seals, tree removals, water quality improvements, bridge reconstruction, and obtained several flood, drainage grants; and WHEREAS, Dennis Schmidt has bee,n with the Butte County Search and Rescue for over ten years, and will continue tohelp County residents inthis capacity into retirement.
